Yet, as I learned on a return visit to <a href=\"https:\/\/schulzmuseum.org\/\">his museum<\/a>, it turns out <\/span>&#8220;Sparky&#8221; <span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs x10flsy6 x1lliihq x1s928wv xhkezso x1gmr53x x1cpjm7i x1fgarty x1943h6x x4zkp8e x41vudc x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u x1yc453h\" dir=\"auto\">was a big supporter of Christo and Jean-Claude&#8217;s toweringly great &#8220;Running Fence&#8221;, the 1976 conceptual land artwork running across Sonoma and Marin counties and into the sea. Schulz made a  delightful Peanuts cartoon about Christo&#8217;s work that ended with a wrapped Snoopy doghouse; Christo repaid the friendship by actually constructing it <span class=\"html-span xexx8yu x4uap5 x18d9i69 xkhd6sd x1hl2dhg x16tdsg8 x1vvkbs x3nfvp2 x1j61x8r x1fcty0u xdj266r xat24cr xgzva0m xhhsvwb xxymvpz xlup9mm x1kky2od\">\ud83d\ude0d<\/span>! Sometimes I feel like I&#8217;m seeing it all at once, and it&#8217;s too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that&#8217;s about to burst<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I never saw &#8220;Running Fence&#8221; <em>in situ<\/em>, but I was knocked out by the <a href=\"https:\/\/mayslesfilms.com\/film\/running-fence\/\">documentary<\/a> by the Maysles about the process Christo and Jeanne-Claud went through to get it built and the incomparable results. I need to get the Maysles&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2005\/01\/14\/4283898\/5-films-about-christo-and-jeanne-claude\">&#8220;5 Films About Christo and Jeanne-Claude&#8221;<\/a>. Something so big, so evocative, so influential that&#8217;s gone forever is melancholic. It&#8217;s reminiscent of Rachel Whiteread&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/House_(sculpture)\">&#8220;House&#8221;<\/a>, another masterpice that vanished in weeks, leaving only pictures and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZVueGlKQTE8\">a great documentary<\/a>. So different from <a href=\"\/blog\/2024\/04\/art-serra-band-broke-me\/\">Richard Serra&#8217;s works<\/a> that should last for centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peanuts forever<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum was gratifyingly well-attended when I returned. Peanuts&#8217; cultural impact will surely fade, but the evergreen <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peanuts_animated_specials\">Peanuts animated specials<\/a> and Vince Guaraldi&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dbPy7hxvj9Q&amp;list=PLWC7641qGWKSZnecVGnWWU30d_IFLRCa5\">excellent music<\/a> will keep it alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier I wrote about a <a href=\"\/blog\/2006\/01\/art-charles-m-schulz-peanuts-museum.html\">previous trip to the Charles M.
