I&#8217;ve watched a few videos of him, so YouTube recommended &#8220;Paul Gilbert \u2013 The Process of Translation | AMS Interview&#8221;. Lot of talk, but at 6:20 he casually unleashes a fantastic cover of the 1973 chestnut &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_QNEf9oGw8o\">Love Will Keep Us Together<\/a>&#8221; by Captain and Tennille (written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield), <em>which is the greatest damn thing on guitar I saw all last year!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Paul Gilbert \u2013 The Process of Translation | AMS Interview\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wvNEUealDbA?start=380&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Another lost video<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cover stuck in my mind and I tried to return to this video, but <em>I couldn&#8217;t find it for months<\/em>. Searching DuckDuckGo, Google, and Youtube for &#8220;Paul Gilbert glasses and short hair&#8221;, &#8220;Love Will Keep Us Together&#8221;, &#8220;1970s covers&#8221;, &#8220;two guys on couch&#8221;, &#8220;motorcycle&#8221; all failed to find it, but eventually Google AI Mode coughed up this video, with all the elements I remembered .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Great covers but not this one<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I need, <em>need<\/em>, <em><strong>need<\/strong><\/em> a recording of Paul Gilbert playing the entire &#8220;Love Will Keep Us Together.&#8221; I couldn&#8217;t find a recorded version of it on <a href=\"https:\/\/paulgilbert.bandcamp.com\/\">Paul Gilbert&#8217;s Bandcamp<\/a>, and it&#8217;s not on Setlist.fm&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.setlist.fm\/stats\/covers\/paul-gilbert-43d6b3ff.html\">huge list of songs<\/a> that Paul Gilbert has covered in shows (but the list is delectable \u2013 &#8220;Magic&#8221; by Pilot,&#8221;Too Shy&#8221; by Kajagoogoo, &#8220;2 Become 1&#8221; by the Spice Girls, &#8230;\ud83d\ude0d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Money talks, but does it record?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I&#8217;ve reached out on the Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/paulgilbert\/comments\/1r2afhg\/whats_the_youtube_video_in_which_paul_gilbert\/\">Gilbert subreddit<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want the whole song, both straight and a heavy shred-rock version with all the motifs turned up to 11, and I&#8217;ll pony up $$$$ to make it happen &lt;Futurama Shut up and take my money GIF&gt;. Seriously. How can I contact Paul Gilbert&#8217;s management?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ll see if &#8220;<span style=\"font-family: sans-serif;\">Executive producer: skierpage<\/span>&#8221; happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Postscript: AI hallucinates yet again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google&#8217;s AI Mode started hallucinating that Paul Gilbert played this song on the &#8220;Rock and Metal School of Music&#8221; and the Japanese &#8220;Young Guitar Magazine&#8221; video channels, and then took a hit of LSD and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The track is officially available on his 2021 album, <em><strong>The 80&#8217;s Hits For Rock Guitar<\/strong><\/em>, which also includes rock versions of tracks like &#8220;What a Fool Believes&#8221; and &#8220;Go All the Way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no such album.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Gilbert is an entertaining voluble guitar whiz.
